HOCKEY INFORMATION

JUNIOR HOCKEY

The MJHC runs weekly Hockey games in a pool including the following clubs - Warkworth, Kaipara Flats, Snells Beach, Wellsford, Horizon, Matakana and Leigh during Term 2 and 3 of the School Year. All teams are mixed (boys and girls). If you wish to register after 31st March you can contact us and we will see if there is still space for your child, unfortunately we cannot guarantee a spot if you miss the registration deadline.

THE SEASON DRAW
The draw will be available on our draw page in late April once all the team registrations have come in and the players have been put into teams.
CANCELLATIONS
The hockey turf is all weather however play will be cancelled if there is any risk of lightning or in cases of extreme weather. Cancelations will be posted on the MJHC Facebook page
SUBS & PAYMENT
Subs are to be paid to your local club co-ordinator and are due at the begining of the season. Saturday morning games are run by the Mahurangi Junior Hockey Club (MJHC) with local club co-ordinators taking registrations and passing subs on to the MJHC.

GROUNDS
Games are played at the WW A&P show ground’s just north of Warkworth, at the hockey turf there. Toilets are based across the rugby fields, or inside the club rooms upstairs and downstairs.
PRACTISES / COACHING
Weekly coaching sessions are organised by your club co-ordinator. This is a chance to practice some skills and play a friendly game.
FUNSTICKS - An introduction to hockey
Open to primary school children in years 0 - 2 and preschool children aged 3 & 4. Fun & Mini sticks numbers are capped so please ensure you register by 31st March. See our Funsticks info page for more details.
JUNIOR HOCKEY - Competitive games
Junior teams - 6 asideFor school years 2 - 4 (ages 7 - 9) Seniors Teams - 7 asideFor school years 5 - 6 (ages 9 - 11) MJHC welcomes all players keen to join our junior hockey competition. Each team will be assigned a coach by their respective Club Coord. who will teach new players the basics.
MJHC - OUR PHILOSOPHY
The emphasis during a game should be on fun and mass participation. Players should be rotated to gain equal experience in all playing positions. Coaches are also instructed to keep a lid on big leads.
SOME REMINDERS
Please note only players and two support crew per team (Coach and one other) are allowed inside the turf enclosure during play.
No player subs, or adults (including coaches and managers) are to be behind the goal line during play.
FIRST AID KIT
There is a joint first aid kit at the turf, on the edge of the turf in the dugout, if not on the turf it is in the 1st hockey cupboard. Ice packs can be found in the freezer in the senior hockey cupboard.
